The Mascún river gives rise to one of the most famous ravines in Guara, being one of the symbols of the Natural Park. In its course, the action of the water has excavated a gap in the mountain where landscapes of impressive waterfalls and an amazing architecture of needles appear, a clear example of the latter is “La Ciudadela” near the town of Rodellar.
These formations give it the appearance of a magical place, which is why Mascún in Arabic means “place inhabited by spirits”.
The Upper Mascún is a descent for experienced canyoners, since it presents a certain technical difficulty and requires physical resistance due to the long duration of the approach and return marches.
During its route, jumps, siphons, rappelling, waterfalls, successions of kettles, chaos of blocks, natural slides and flooded corridors are combined. To all this we must add an approach march during which we will see the abandoned town of Otin witness to a lifestyle that has already disappeared.
Those canyoners prepared for the descent will be able to enjoy a magnificent day, discovering the star ravine of Guara
The recommended time to do this descent is spring, since the flow in summer can be too low to enjoy this activity.
Description of the activity
At the established departure time it will be necessary to be at the door of the office with your own vehicle to collect the material and meet the guide who will accompany us throughout the tour.
Taking into account the dimensions of the ravine, it is necessary to get up early!
Remember your swimsuit, food, water and sneakers!
From the office we will follow the guide’s car to the parking lot where the activity begins.
From there we will make a long approach walk passing through the town of Otin until we reach the river.
Once in the water we will put on the neoprene and enjoy the descent!
